Blog: Digitization is…

Digitalization is…

… when history is repeating itself.
The majority of the Executives of today have experienced the progression from Letter to Fax, from Fax to Email and now it is time to move to online collaboration.
Do you remember the funny fax and email at the beginning of these new technologies and how the’ve evolved to a vital part of business?
The same will happen with social & instant communication technologies. It’s time to keep-up with the next generation of technology and employees!

‘This must be your lcuky day. You have spam e-mail and spam fax.’

Digitalization is…

… not done in Emails and PPT – It is done on the level of data fields !
Business developers, Business analysts, Process Managers and other great titles in todays organisations have often not yet realised that they have to make themselves familiar with data.
The digital transformation will take place on the level of data and not on the level of Email and PPT.

Digitalization is…

…. data, data, data.
It is all about information stored in an electronic way. Not as a file, spreadsheet or document saved electronically (not even if it is stored in the cloud!), but as a data set or record in a structured database.
The digitalisation of processes works only, when all necessary information are organised and managed in a well structured form in a database with a certain degree of quality.
Something has not change in the 4th industrial revolution , or is even more important: Shit in – Shit out.

Digitalization is…

… not presentation slides, articles, speeches or quotes about it; that is simply called marketing or is a change management element.

Ironically, this is what I’m just doing here 😉
I’ve observed in business life, that all managers and communication departments talk and write about Digitalisation, but when they make decisions, I is often based on their knowledge from the past. They are often not aware of the impact of their decision on data and ignore the possibilities of today’s and tomorrow’s technology.

Digitalization is…

… transforming a business process into readiness for the future.

Digitalization doesn’t necessarily disrupt the business processes. Sometimes it is only necessary to transform the data and the tools needed for the process, to gain quality, efficiency and productivity. Based on the optimised data, you can then start to analyse your business process on an other level and carry on to continuously improve it.

Difference between Digitization, Digitalization and Digital Transformation

Digitization is….

…when you understand the difference between Digitization, Digitalization and Digital Transformation. Or do you know these terms better when written in British English format: Digitisation and Digitalision?
I found recently a great article explaining the difference between:

Digitization is…

Hello. This is the first entry of my new blog.

The main topic of this blog will be all around a change that is impacting the live of all human beings living today and in the future. I don’t like to over-stagger topics, but in this case I have the strong opinion that it is necessary. Please comment if you have a different opinion. I will share here my experience and my thoughts about a topic that has many names, is subject of a lot of misinterpretations and the root cause for many discussions.
As an analogy to the very famous “Love is…” cartoons, I will always start a post with “Digitization is…” at least I will try 😉
